    Food thread

Maybe I missed it but this forum needs a everything food thread, from gardens, cooking, processing any game or bird, dehydration, canning. Making beer and spirits, BBQing, fish fry. Hog roast. Sharing recipes.

Food and shooting sports go hand in hand. Eat what you kill and tell tall stories about the hunt, as it should be.

Love a beer and a BBQ.
We are having a heat wave at the moment with the highest recorded day this year in the UK at 37 Degrees C. So definitely BBQ weather!.

I have never killed then eaten something but I would be up for learning how to do that if I ever get the chance to do so.
What's you Favourite thing to shoot and eat?

No more hunting for me unless necessary. Boar hunting and roast will always be my favorite. No dogs used in the hunt when I was active,
I now am a base camp cook for friends when they go. In trade I get a cut of the meat. Mmmmm, venison jerky and summer sausage at Christmas.

If I had a magic wand I would make processing game a compulsory item in Highschool. Many do not even have the knowledge to gut or cook the most simplest of game, fish or fowl.

In Korea I got to know a Filipino who turned me on to my first hog roast. The meat was simply the most delicious I have ever had.

    Hi Tobkis,

We have wild boar here but they are in small numbers. They went extinct from the UK and then re introduced to our woodlands. I love a hog roast and there is a whole event industry where people have these hog roast trailers that are hired for events etc, probably the same in the US? Normally served in a white buttered roll "Bun" Pork, Crackling and Apple Source. and sometimes stuffing (A sage and onion mixture)

What do you call the fat/skin? I know it as "Crackling" or "Pork Scratchings"

Pork rind or Chicharrones, fried like a chip and either BBQ Flavor or hot n spicy. I get them plain and put Tabasco sauce on em. Great with beer. Noisy food taste great, in the army while out in the field you could hear soldiers eating it. The soldiers main munchie outside sunflower seeds, jerky and spam. The MRE comes with its own bottle of hot sauce ready for the Pork Rind that the soldier sneaked into his rucksack.
