    Modified Mosin Nagant 91/59

I was lucky enough to find a Mosin 91/59 barreled receiver for sale on a auction site. Taking risk I purchased it wanting a winter project. Plenty of spare parts on the web so the fun begins...

    Barreled receiver 1943: $79.00
Mosin 9130 wood stock: $20.00 (Cut down, stripped, refinished in natural).
Complete bolt/Trigger group and housing: $36.00
    Background Check: $20.00

After gathering all the parts it was time for fit and finish, grab ammo and head to the mountains for safety checks and to see how effective it is. It is a real Frankenstick, Barreled receiver is Russian and the bolt is Hungarian (02) designation, the stock is from a 9130.

I did this 10 years or so ago. The rifle and my eyesight are effective to about 150 yards with open sights. The rifle itself weighs in at about 8.5 pounds loaded. It was neat project so I did 2 of these mods for myself and a friend had me do one for him.

The mosin 91/59 is on the left and the M9138 is on the right. Great rifles for the area in these parts.

On this mosin, I am tinkering with the idea of making it a Scout rifle, paying the $200.00 tax stamp to shorten the barrel to 15 inches and adding a LER scope.

Went camping this weekend with wifey as a birthday getaway, wonderful Colorado. Here is the 1943 Mosin 9138 ready for cleaning. Shot about 50 rounds. The family calls it granny's broomstick because if granny can shoot it so can you. Granny has never shot the boom stick but it puts people at ease with a larger caliber.
