Just joined, yes it appears to be slow. What is your primary tool that you shoot?

    Hi Tobkis, Welcome,

I am currently shoot a Franchi Alcione (12g) but I am on the look out for a new Browning. I also have a Beretta auto but I don't shoot with that much and it was more for the wife as its lighter to swing.

    How about yourself ?

Only scatter guns I own are in 410 bore, my oldest is a Stevens 59A bolt action tube fed built in th 1940s. The wifey is into lever action 22lr, Henry and Mossberg SPX along with 22 handguns both in semi auto and Revolvers.

When SKS's hit the market here I knew to stock up and I did, at less than $100.00 each originally one would be a fool not to. Same goes for spam cans. The last SKS I purchased was the SKS cowboy companion at $325.00. Now SKS's are expensive.......more so because of the political environment.

I also enjoy shooting the 7.62x54r mosin carbine's and VEPR. For some reason this caliber and platforms agrees with me.

Mostly our family enjoys weapons from WWII, Korea and Veitnam era, history is important and is what draws us to a certain rifles or handguns.

Hey Laz, I understand the UK has issues just like we do (Political and ideological) when it comes to being armed or buying, I took a cruise around your top UK gun forums and wow.

It seems gun ownership is tied to being wealthy, or at the least, disposable income has influence. Can you educate me? I do not want to walk away from this with the wrong impression.

    Hi Tobkis,

I guess in the UK there are more shotgun owners than rifle owners (I might be wrong) but it is hard to get the paperwork for a rifle. As far as getting in to the sport there are lots of clay shoots up and down the country.
You can pick up a cheap secondhand shotgun for £150 ($200) and some budget cartridges for £4.50 ($6) a box of 25. I normally buy 1000 at a time for about £190 ($250)

The clay shoot I go to charges £30 ($40) for a 100 clays. So entry into the sport is not bad at all.

Lots of farmers let you shoot on their land too for free. Pigeons and Crows normally.

It starts getting expensive when you go to a fully laid-on pheasant shoot on a country estate. These can be priced at £200 - £2000 and upwards for a day. I have never been on one of these.

    Cheers, Laz

Your 12 gauge cost and Estate are on par with us but on the plains pheasant is every mans sport.Yea, paperwork. No wonder Sgt Turner went nuts at Ft. Bliss Texas and truly purchased a arsenal over the course of 2 years once he became a citizen (former British citizen) back in 1985.
Did not realize how heavy regulation was when in came to semiauto rifles. Thanks,

No problem, I want rifles that are legal in other countries that in no way could I own here. Hmmm, maybe that is the purpose of the Deactivated thread. Naw, that would be like bellying up at your fav Pub and ordering Near Beer, it doesn't work.

Think I will post my project SKS with pics and describe the mods on each phase, see if I can get some input....just starting it. I favor wood furniture for most of my rifles, for me the wood stock on the rifle is the soul, the connection when shooting. I don't get the connection with plastic but nonetheless this SKS will be fitted in a Dragonov Chaote Stock.

Maybe some of the forum voyers would care to chime in...
